Small soup company looking for experienced cook

We are a small quirky company that makes and delivers soup using organic local ingredients. We’ve been in business a year and a half so we’ve got a solid foundation – and we’re growing rapidly. Every week we cook and package 3 different soups (meat, vegetarian, and vegan) and then deliver it to the masses of Portland by bicycle!

We are looking for someone who:
• loves making and eating soup!
• has past professional food experience of 2+ years
• has past experience making soups
• is passionate about local organic food
• has knowledge of seasonality, vegetable varieties, and local flavors
• has experience cooking in a production environment with large batches (not required, but a definite plus!)

For the right person this is a great opportunity for growth as you’ll be an integral part of the company as we expand. Main responsibilities include; cooking, recipe development, food prep, kitchen management, maintaining health and safety standards, food ordering, and working within a budget. However, we work as a team and you will also need to jump in to complete a needed task that might include washing dishes, packaging soup or mopping the floor.

At the moment we work under some rather challenging kitchen circumstances. We work in a rented kitchen with very little storage space that we have for 2 days a week. Ingredients come in Monday morning and leave Tuesday afternoon as 80+ gallons of cooled and packaged soup. Only the very basics in kitchen equipment are available to us. We don’t plan on being in this situation forever, but it’s our current reality. Must be flexible, easy going, and efficient.

Hours are 10:00 am – 6:30 pm on Monday, and 6:00 am to 2:30 pm on Tuesday. Additional flexible hours for recipe development and food ordering. 20 hours a week to start with a strong possibility to move toward full time in the next year. This is an hourly position starting at $12 an hour.

Please check out our website to get more of a feel for what we are all about. If you’re the type of person who would love to get in on the ground floor of a young company, live through some of our growing pains with flexibility and humor, and help SoupCycle reach its full potential we would love to hear from you! Please send your resume and a statement about why you are interested in this position to jobs@soupcycle.com.
