I came out of an office building during deliveries this Wednesday to see something unexpected on my delivery trike- a grocery bag with a purse in it! I looked around and saw no one who could have put it there.

Now- I hate to admit this- but my first reaction was “Oh my gosh- a bomb!” as if someone was trying to destroy the office building I was parked in front of – or worse yet- MY TRIKE! I carefully picked up the grocery bag with purse inside and did what any good samaritan would do- brought the pursebomb to building’s receptionist- whose reaction was “Oh great- you brought me a bomb”, but she was willing to keep it there until its owner claimed it or or someone triggered it from their remote.

The next day I got an email from the receptionist telling me the purse had been claimed. The owner told the receptionist that her entire life savings- over $10,000- was in the bag. I still have no idea how it ended up on my trike or what she was doing carrying $10,000 in her purse. We have some bizarre experiences out there bicycling soup around Portland, but this ranks as one of the oddest to date.
